What is Wi-Fi? How does Wi-fi works?

We all are aware about the Wi-fi. You may all have heard its name many times in your life. But have you ever wondered that what Wi-fi actually is and what is the working of Wi-fi? Nowadays, wi-fi is a very popular technology which is being used by many peoples who are using their broadband connection. Few months back, I don’t know much about the working and technology of the Wi-Fi network. But being a tech guy, I came to about the Wi-fi technology when I started using the Wi-fi broadband.  At that time, I was confused about the Wi-fi broadband and I don’t know that how to choose the best Wi-fi network broadband? What is the working of Wi-fi? How to choose best security protected Wi-fi broadband? But now, my all doubts are cleared when read about that from other sources. So, I am going to share it will you all that will help you to know about the important things of Wi-fi.

What is Wi-fi? What is 2.4 Ghz or 5Ghz?

Wi-fi is also popularly known as Wireless LAN (or) WLAN. It is a type of device which allows users to communicate with other by using a router. It is a wireless network which generally has a some range to provide networks to users to communicate and transfer data. Generally, a Wi-fi router uses radio waves to communicate and transmit data. Each device which uses the radio waves works on a particular frequency. Now, you are thinking that what is the difference between the 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz frequencies. A good and high frequency allows the device to communicate freely without any major interference rather than the low frequencies. That’s why, these days many of the wi-fi routers comes with 5 Ghz band (hence it is better for data transfers as compared to 2.4 Ghz). Also, the higher frequency Wi-fi router offers the shorter range wireless network. But 5 Ghz router does not gets disturbed by the solid objects.  

What is Wi-fi (a/b/g/n)

These are the Wi-fi standards which allow the users to choose the good one and latest standards. The Wi-fi standards ‘a’ and ‘b’ are the old one and are non-existent. These two provides the low bandwidth and are not much accepted in these days. The Wi-fi standard ‘g’ transfers the maximum rate of 54 mbps and it is quite better than the previous ‘a’ and ‘b’ wi-fi standards. Talk of the standard ‘n’, so it is the latest one and offers a maximum of 300 mbps transfer rate. Most of the latest laptops, smartphones and tablets come installed with the ‘n’ standard. It is provides the better signal strength and either uses the both data transfer frequencies.

What are different kinds of Wi-fi routers?

There are three kinds of routers. These are as follows –
1) Single band – supports only 2.4 Ghz frequency (do not support 5 Ghz frequency)
2) Dual band – Supports both 2.4 Ghz frequency and 5 Ghz frequency.
3) Simultaneously band – supports both the frequencies at the same time with more speed and flexibility.

What is Wi-fi security?

The craze of wi-fi is increasing day by day. Wi-fi is used by many peoples nowadays but have you ever thought that how much your Wi-fi network is secure? Are you sure that anybody is not hacking your Wi-fi network. Don’t get panic because there is a simple and effective method to protect your wi-fi network. Hence, this method is known as SSID (Server Set Identifier) where you can hide your network name from others. But still, hackers can find the hidden network through their hacking tools and softwares. But, many of the latest wi-fi routers have advanced security features. Let’s see that what these are. The common security modes are WEP, WPA and WPA2 where WPA2 is one most advanced secure router. So, these are all about the wi-fi and Wi-fi security.
